Voyager 1: The Golden Record and the Infinite Horizon

Voyager 1: The Golden Record and the Infinite Horizon
Voyager 1 is currently over 23 billion kilometers from Earth. It remains one of our most successful missions, providing the first close-up images of the Great Red Spot on Jupiter and the complex rings of Saturn.

Fastened to its side is the Golden Record—a 12-inch gold-plated copper disk containing sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth. It is a time capsule, intended to communicate our story to any spacefarers it might encounter in the distant future.
